How does it work?
It couldn’t be easier – choose a teacher, pick a lesson, select a day and time convenient for you and complete the booking. The only details needed are your name and Skype details. Your teacher will then call you on your chosen lesson date.
How much does it cost?
We offer a free trial lesson, the price of regular lessons start from $14, but the more lessons you book, the cheaper they become.
Can my teacher speak other language?
Our teachers can speak other languages, but as a rule our lessons use a technique called ‘full immersion’. This means that only English will be spoken during lesson time. This has been proven to be the most effective way of learning a new language, it sounds scary, but our teachers are very friendly, and trust us – it works!
How do I choose my teacher?
You have two choices, either visit our find a teacher page where you will see a list of our current teachers. Alternatively, we offer free consultation with a member of staff who has been trained to assess your ability and needs, and will be happy to match you with your perfect teacher.
What happens in the lesson?
You will learn one-to-one from a fully qualified, experienced Friendly Teacher. All of our lessons can be customised to meet your needs, and also our teachers have been trained to quickly establish your learning goals and target the areas that will help you to progress quickly.
How do I pay for my lessons?
We accept payment with Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover through Paypal. Paypal is a secure payment processor that guarantees the safety of your online transaction. It is one of the most popular and safest online payment methods in the world.
Are lessons on Friendly Teachers different to classroom lessons?
Yes – in a classroom you have fifteen other students competing for your teacher’s time and attention. English lessons on Friendly Teachers are always one-to-one meaning that your teacher will be able focus directly on you. (Online lessons are also more convenient and cheaper – but you already know that!)
Do I need to buy or download any special software for lessons?
Yes, you will need to download Skype. Skype is the market leading video chat application that lets you talk over the Internet for free. Skype is very easy to download and setup. The sound quality is excellent, it is usually as clear as a telephone conversation and in most cases better. It is also possible to have your English class through Google Hangouts which can be activated through a Gmail account. For those of you with Apple devices, it is also possible to use FaceTime.
Do I need high speed internet?
It doesn’t need to be super fast, as long as the connection is stable & reliable then the lesson quality will be so good that you’ll forget you’re using a computer. Click here for a guide on Skype’s minimum internet requirements.
What happens if I am late?
Your teacher will always wait for the entire lesson so no need to panic if you are running late. However, please remember that our teachers are very busy and will usually have another lesson starting straight after yours so if you are late, it might not be possible for you to have your full lesson.
What happens if my teacher doesn’t call me?
If your teacher is more than 10 minutes late calling, you will be fully refunded your lesson within 24 hours. However, this has never happened before and unless there is an emergency situation, we can guarantee that this will never happen.
What if I want to cancel?
Our teachers are very popular so please give at least 12 hours notice so that we can offer the appointment time to another student. Any cancellations received less than 12 hours before the lesson start time will be considered as complete and we will be unable to give any refund.
I am a beginner, can I take a lesson?
Sure you can, although for beginners we recommend trying the Free Trial so that your teacher can assess your exact level.
Do you teach children?
Of course! All of our teachers have experience teaching students of all ages, although we do recommend children only take 30-minute lessons.
